Welcome to Class 6M and 6N

We are thrilled to welcome you to you Year 6 where we will embark on a journey of growth and achievement. This is a very important year where your child will develop both academic and personal skills, preparing them for their secondary school career.

Whilst there are high expectations and many academic challenges, Year 6 also offers exciting opportunities for children to thrive, explore their interests and talents and develop as individuals:

  • Activity week
  • Year 6 play
  • Sporting trips
  • Opportunities to lead on initiatives (house and sports captaincy)
  • Community awareness workshops

We are excited to work collaboratively with you to ensure your child’s success. Below are some reminders and helpful links to support your child.

A few helpful reminders:

Homework: Maths, spelling and writing homework is set every Friday and will be reviewed the following Friday.

Home reading: Children should be reading everyday for 20 minutes and recording a comment in their reading record.

Comments may include:

  • a summary of what they have read
  • an aspect of the text they liked/disliked, using evidence to support this
  • thoughts about the plot, characters and events; predictions for the remainder of the book, using evidence to support this

It is important that children are reading both fiction and non-fiction. As children become more confident readers, they may wish to read independently. We would still expect all children to be reading to an adult at least once a week.

Children should bring home two books – a banded book at their current reading level and one chosen for pleasure from our class library.

Curriculum Meeting: Please see attached the information from the ‘Year 6 Parents’ Meeting’ which took place on Thursday 14th September. Here you will find information regarding the curriculum, expectations and school year.

P.E uniform:

Children should wear their P.E kits on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. This consists of:

    • White t-shirt with school logo
    • Navy shorts/tracksuit bottoms
    • Trainers

6N Class Mass: Wednesday 1st November 2023 – All Saints Day

Children walking home alone: In Year 6, some parents feel that children are able to walk to and from school alone. If you wish for your child to be dismissed at the end of the school day, please write a note of permission to Mr McCormick/Miss Newman. Without this, children cannot be dismissed.

Parents evening: Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th October

Christmas Fair: Friday 1st December

Christmas Carol Concert: Wednesday 20th December
